$NIKEPIG emerged from a viral tweet by Cardano founder Charles Hoskinson, who shared a story about his pet pig, Nike. The amusing contrast of a pig — typically associated with laziness and gluttony — sharing a name with one of the most iconic sports brands caught the crypto community's attention.
Within minutes, $NIKEPIG was created as a tribute, fueled by the community's love for memes.
Charles later revealed Nike's backstory: the pig had been mistreated and shockingly fed bacon by a previous owner. Nike was rescued and given a new life on Hoskinson's ranch, where he's thrived ever since.
